That's one of the issues that I have with the client program Kunal. Stupid things has lost THOUSANDS of points worth of units for me just in the past few weeks because the retarded GPU client just terminates for no reason, all the time.

I am hoping that ocne they released the re-tooled clients, all these issues we are seeing will be resolved.

Lets see what happens.

With that said, I think I might be able to implement this using WMI for the multi-core case, if I can figure out how to overcome a permissions issue I'm running into at the moment. 🙂
Ok, I looked into this some more, and it doesn't seem like this approach will work for Sidebar gadgets. Standalone apps, yes, but gadgets, no. =\

This is the reason:
If the user is running as a standard user, the Sidebar Gadgets run with standard user privileges and are restricted from making dangerous system changes to the user's PC. In the Administrator Approval Mode of UAC, by default Sidebar Gadgets run with standard user privileges, even if the user is a member of the administrators group.

In order to make this work, I need to read Win32_Process.ExecutablePath, but since the F@h service runs as the "SYSTEM" user, the value returned is null unless I explicitly launch the sidebar.exe process with admin privileges.

I did a little test in PowerShell to confirm this. $pItem.ExecutablePath in the following code only returns a value in an elevated PS session.

Code:
$pList = get-wmiobject -class "Win32_Process" -namespace "root\cimv2" -computername "." –filter "Name='FAHCore_78.exe'"
foreach ($pItem in $pList) { write-host $pItem.Name, $pItem.ExecutablePath }

There goes that idea. :dead:

Interesting idea, at least for the cpu clients.

Actually, even the gpu clients should be good with it.

Can you not launch the F@H executable through the gadget?
It's possible, but I really don't want to go down that path because it introduces quite a bit of additional complexity. 🙂 For example, the gadget would have to check for already running F@h processes before it spawns anything because launching the same instance twice would make things go crazy. It would also have to do the cleanup when it unloads. I could probably make it work, but it's going to bloat up the code and make maintenance a pain.

I just thought of another simpler approach that could do the job. I need a few of you who are running the client as a service in Vista to tell me how the service is named on your system. You need to open up services.msc, double-click the FAH service(s) and tell me what the display names are.

Glad to see my folding has kept up without paying attention to it 🙂

I have a few left to add back in.

2) Core 2Duo laptops
1) 3Ghz PC
1) 1.3Ghz

Plus my 2.9Ghz and X1800XT at home.

I hope to be over 2K per day.

OK, I wrote some code today and have the core status check working on my box. 🙂
I need this info from a few people to make sure the code is generic enough to work on other machines. I especially need it from people running the GPU client as a service (Sazar?) since I can't check that myself.

What the hell.. 1 unit returned but 0 points.. I feel my folding is so.. pointless (no pun intended)

Yah, and your signature STILL points to my profile lol.
I'm confused?

I don't know how my numbers are going up, I've actually been removing clients of late but I'll take it 😱 😛

and yet.. the link on kcny's signature STILL links to sazar's profile 🙂

lol

No you doofus, it's supposed to point to YOUR profile info 😀

Cheers 😉

I suppose you could also have it link to the team profile..

Yah, thanks Fitz, coz apparently when I gave the heads-up I was talking about John Wayne or something.

:smoker:

lmao...

ot, i've been gettin a lot of 574 point wu's lately... im so happy 🙂
