TwoZigzagColt45- but do you have to have the program running in the background to achieve minimize to system tray?

To clarify my wants.... I want to shrink my entire CompuServe program to the system tray to get it off of the task bar, *without the use of a program running in the background.*

To me CompuServe is useless I use it to get a connection then it’s minimized and IE6 is opened.

yes it puts a short cut in your start up folder - I just drag n drop the icon down to the quick launch & fire it up when required

hold it, aol is easy, just minimize the browser, and open ie from your start, or your programs...when I used aol, I made an ie shortcut...thenwhen aol loged on, I just minimized, and opened a no aol toolbar ie...

now it just occured to me, my aol was 7.0, so if you are not able to minimize the aol toolbar, then upgrade the dialer to the latest version...then, you can get rid of everything aol when browsing

I've been using AOL v4,5,6 & now 7 which is the only one compatible with XP none of my AOLs' have ever minimized to the tray - AOL does come with a tray icon but that is for the options & can easily be turned off, but my AOL browser has always minimized to the taskbar :( - see pic

This one is looking bleak!!

I have been searching all day and haven’t found anything. Why can't it be as easy as outlook? It must be possible, if it can be done with outlook it must be able to be performed with CompuServe.

Wow, I'm at a delema that I can't solve...I had to move back to n.y., for personal reasons, and until my dsl got hooked, I switched to the paid netzero...couldn't minimize the tolbar till I gor that beware of the dog proggy,...BUT...I installed aol for my sister who also had to come out to n.y., and whenever she got on line, (my box), I just minimized aol, and that was it, all that was left was my desktop, so the ie was beiutifull, no toolbars whatsoever...so, to make this long story, end, I don't know why my aol minimized, and yours doesn't...if dirk comes in here, He'll tell me what the registry keys to look for, and maybe we can all crete a brand new aol tweak that'll put us in the history books...till then, I'm no help

I guess we are in the hands of dirk now maby he will come up with an answer. wouldnt this be a great way to make aol and cs mad!!

he's going to need me to export my registry that part of my registry to him, and he's on 56k, so it might not fly...otherwise, he's going to tell me what to look for, and walk me through it, like I'm the only guy left to fly a plane home, and I'm no pilot...let's see if this works...he comes in from england, so don't hold your breath till tomorrow

I wonder where dirk is...haven't seen him

anyway, whenever I'm on a comunity box, I hide my tracks as much as possible...(lotta porn sites)

only if you're on a comunity box, at home, especially at work

clear the history cache. Open ie, Tools, Internet Options. hit the General tab, clear history... I would also set this to clear everyday automatically, but someone might change that back, so keep an eye on that, while you're in there, delet your cookies and files...now go back to work

Don't forget under IE Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Edit, typing www can reveal a limited number of previous sites visited.

the 400th post'll be here in a little while...I'm not gonna post it...it'd be nice if someone came in with a huge tweak for that post...I think I'm out of huge tweaks, unless someone wants my pornsite favorites...that's huge

Bizi looking for work. :( Then bizi working.
-After 3 yrs in my university books, it's kind of rough...

Thanks for asking. :)

ok...when I have a program crash, I know it's crashed, so I press contoll alt, del...I select the program to end, and windows wants to see for itself that the program crashed...I don't like waiting for info I already know, so I change that defaualt time period to 1 second...here's how;

Hit the registry shortcut I made for ya back on page one...go to HKCU\Control Panel\desktop, add or change the value named HungAppTimeout, changing its current data of 5000 to 1000.

In Registry key HKCU\Control Panel\desktop, add or change the value named WaitToKillAppTimeout, changing its current data of 20000 to 1000.

Good One Dealer

That is a useful little tweak, I too hate waiting for windows to think about closing the app first.

Explorer not responding - cpu stuck at 100%

My workaround

This a well documented problem and the cause is a supposedly corrupt INDEX.DAT file. The cure is to delete these files, which is no easy task, I managed to delete these files using SpiderBite by Ward van Wanrooij. But the problem continues. So here’s my workaround –
First your going to need a windows explorer shortcut on your desktop – right click on your desktop – choose New/shortcut to C:\WINDOWS\explorer.scf – Next create shortcuts on your desktop to the programs that have a tendency to crash (third party cleaners & beta programs seem to be the worst offenders). Now for the workaround press CTRL – ALT - DELETE to bring up your task manager – hit the process tab – now scroll down to explorer.exe – right click – end process – (this will remove the task bar & desktop) now hit the applications tab – at the bottom of that window hit NEW TASK – in the new box hit browse – in the new window hit the look in drop down menu and choose desktop – double click on the program you want to run – in the new box hit OK – now you have a choice to either minimize or close your task manager if you minimize don’t worry about it vanishing its still there just press ALT & TAB to bring it back or CTRL – ALT – DELETE to bring it back – To bring back your Explorer(task bar & desktop) - Applications / new task / browse / look in / desktop / double click your newly created explorer shortcut / OK…….Now when your program crashes it doesn’t take the explorer with it & the CPU wont get stuck on 100%

When you get to the task manager browse window & you have hit the look in drop down menu Desktop - if your shortcuts aren't displayed hit FILES OF TYPE drop down menu at the bottom of the window & change it from Programs to All Files.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
