What is the fastest web browser?

I find mozilla the default browser for me. Combined with Multizilla it's more convienient to tap on the scroll wheel to open a window in a new frame.

Like skinning it too, makes it look less clinical and more my own

I formatted my box the other day and re-installed windows.
the VERY first thing i installed was Mozilla, pre-drivers or anything, Mozilla gets installed.
If i was to install Linux , id install mozilla, its more convenient to have a cross-platform standard. :)

WOW... This Opera is much faster than any other broswer I have ever used.... Thanks a bunch guys :)

I tried 7b the other week.
It is a nice browser, i'm just too used to mozilla now :)

Opera 7 here as well, theres a definate difference in speed over IE. Dealer you say Opera 6 was slow, thats odd, I found that even v6 was a lot faster than IE-not in terms of familiararity either, just raw rendering speed, have you tried 7 yet. I should point out Im talking about a 56k connection, my ADSl should be up and running next week so rendering shouldnt be as much of an issue. However I will definately be staying with Opera now, I love it :)

I tried 7 on a broadband

now, as I said, the illusion of speed almost made me post that this browser was faster then ie.

however, when I timed the page loading, I could not tell the differance from my stop watch.

therefore, I wnt to some sites that rendered script execution...(check statistics at the bottom of the page, do side by side comparisons

in 9 out of 10 times, ie was clearly faster at script execution then opera.

this, combined with the discusting mount of space the toolbars take up made me immediately toss the program, before I tested on a slow connection.

I am definately saying though, that at first look, without timing, due to the abundant taskbar activity, opera definately SEEMED the faster browser.

but this did not hold against tming mechanisms, and it did not hold against script execution.

my timing experiment however is certainly biased, as I have done some ie tweaking, and I have not done opera tweaking...also, I am familiar with ie, and that always translates into a speed benefit.

however, at script execution, this is not biased or illusionary, these figures are accurate, so give that a go...as I said,ie's benefit over opera on my box may be due to my ie tweaking

Everything but Netscape :p Opera was pretty fast but got considerably slower with version 7 in Windows XP. IE is very fast if you turn off all those senseless smoothing stuff :D

Dealer, if you have broadband, like you and I speed in a browser is not that important(as you are talking in 10ths of seconds) I always liked Opera, as a back-up browser usually, its pretty customizable and you can move the tool-bars about and make them smaller. In fact you are right IE is faster then Opera, but not by much.

mmmmm..... I don't know, Opera 7 seems to me a bit faster than Mozilla. I don't really know what to pick though, lol

In Mozilla, make sure you have Pipelining enabled to increase speeds.

It's under Preferences>Advanced>HTTP Networking, I think
Turn it on, and restart the browser.

How do you do that in Phoenix

I believe in pheonix, pipelining is enabled by default in...but I have pheonix uninstalled, so I can't take a look..someone will for you

just so you know, pipelining definately gave a hge booste in speed to mozilla.

once I enabled pipelining, ( I wonder what that does), mozilla started to download pages at a speed that was sufferable...but mozilla never ever caought up to pheonix, opera, or internet explorer for speed of loading pages, and script excecution.

if you want to get away from ie, pheonix and opera are the only two that are as fast as ie

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
