Firebird Discussion

Looks like we've branched out to early 0.7 builds :)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20030924 Firebird/0.7+

:D

Extensions does't work with Firebird Nithtly Build Version.

I am using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20030924 Firebird/0.7+
When I used Tabbrowser Extensions it always crashed.:(
Any other extensions can do some settings like Tabbrowser Extensions could do?

As you're using a nightly (in this case a very early 0.7 build) nothing is guarenteed to work, I'd say go back to a 0.6.1+ build from a few nights back, either the plugin will need to be updated for the 0.7 builds or the next nightly will fix the issue. It may just turn out that someone finds a setting that needs to be tweaked to fix it, but I would just go back to a 0.6 build if it's an extension that you require the use of.

i'm using firebird optimized for pentium 4 and the speed is out of this world... my primary browser is opera but i always thought MSIE as the fastest browser... until i found firebird... i got it from this site..

http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/

i got the one that says xxxxxx-01-G7-SSE2.zip

Ok,
2 things i have noticed here by the way - firstly with Mozilla, using the official version or the nightlies, when i load NTFS or gamespot the leftmost table on seems to stretch right accross the page. Any ideas?

Secondly Warp2Search have added this HUMUNGUS ad which you have to look at before you can get to their main page (which sux ass) but i cannot get past it. If i leave the browser alone OR hit Skip Ad the ad just starts all over again and i cant get in?

Is this a Mozilla thing?

Java with Mozilla in my experence seems to be a bit hit and miss. But otherwise its an excellent browser and is now my first choice for surfing.

yes raja this is a firebird bug that was introduced on 30th july that ive been campaining to try and get fixed ever since because it makes viewing ntfs very irritating.

for those interested the bug is http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215857

the more votes we get on the bug the faster its likely to get fixed so go vote for it.

also incase this hasnt been mentioned, anyone that doesnt want to use TBE (i gave up using it, it keeps breaking and slows things down) but still wants single window mode, go to about:config and set browser.block.target_new_window to true. this basically blocks anything from opening in a new window unless you specifically do it by middle clicking a link, i.e. it gives single window mode. i found this to work perfectly well instead of TBE and its many problems.

I have never seen that bug, can you paste some sites where this happens? As this does not happen on the frontpage of NTFS for me.

ill do better than that, heres 3 screenshots taken by me demonstrating this bug, one of which shows it happening on ntfs (which for me is the worst by far of the sites it happens on).

www.darkcity.nildram.co.uk/badrender.jpg
www.darkcity.nildram.co.uk/badrender2.jpg
www.darkcity.nildram.co.uk/badrender3.jpg

This bug doesnt seem to happen for everyone and doesnt even happen every time for those that are affected (but its happening maybe 75% of the time on ntfs), we cant work out why. But it happens on many sites and its extremely irritating so everyone go vote for it at the link i gave, even if you arent affected.

Lets validate the sites, because it could be because of errors in the coding of the site, causing the render engine to render it wrong as its fault tolerance is not high enough:

NTFS.org:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://ntfs.org

Gamespot.net/com:
Doesnt contain a DTD tag, thus the browser has to guess what version of HTML/XHTML it is dealing with

ADSLguide.net:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://adslguide.org.uk

flexbeta.net
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://69.50.228.119/main/index.php

As you can see, all these sites contain numerous HTML/XHTML wrong doings, or errors. I would appreciate it if either of you would find a site where this happens, AND it it is fully compatible according to http://validator.w3.org/

I will be downloading the latest nightly in just a few moments, to test.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20030926 Firebird/0.7+

And no problems to report what so ever.

I checked out all the sites you 2 mentioned, and i have yet to see what you see.

Do you have any extensions installed?

if you see the bug link, the problem is down to the <hr element in pages (of which ntfs has a great many). its nothing to do with incorrect html its a known browser bug with hr that needs fixing.

these pages may well have loads of errors according to the validator, but it looks to me like that validator is showing errors for the tinyest little thing such as a missing alt attribute, which isnt needed anyway and hence isnt really an error in the html at all. theres so many irrelevant "errors" in each page you cant find the REAL errors.

either way it is a known browser bug so it looks like all we can do is vote for it and get the priority up on it so its fixed quicker (cos its already been there 2 months).

How come some people have problems, and others like me dont? That is what i am wondering about. Mabey that is why its not possible to track it down to its source where the error happens, because its different for every user.

And not having an ALT tag is an error, because its a needed tag so that people that have impaired vision can surf a site.

Once agian, do you have any extensions installed? Becausei am not seeing any errors.

This is all very strange because I do not have any problem what so ever with Gamespot nor NTFS. As for the banner problem, I have both Mozilla and Firebird tweaked for no Ads sooooo, I don't see the Warp2Search Ad. I just go strait to http://www.warp2search.net/ and boom... i'm there.

What versions of Mozilla or Firebird are you using??? Are you using a nightly build??? What have you tweaked in the browser???

vBulletin has always made stuff render wrong for Mozilla. Its a known fact.

Yip, vB must be only tested on IE before release.
I've had the problem with the huge menu too, I'm always using a nightly, but just hitting refresh -always- works.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
