X-FI Card Difference

I may have asked this before, and could figure it out quickly if I wanted too.

What is the highest quality connection for sound? I assume HDMI, but assume that is only available along side video...>?

analogue. Always has been, always will be.

sound isn't digital. never has been, never will be.

So why does my comp in the sound settings right now, show

6 analog connects, and 2 Digital, 1 HDMI available.

Those analog connects are for offloading the audio to a reciever or sub-system that will handle the sound sent to the speakers. With the advent of Digital audio, most people thought that the best translation would be a digital to digital filter. However, what most people forget is that the sound is ultimately converted back to analog for you to hear.

and a high end sound card will do more for you than using digital output to pc speakers. If you have a hi-fi you can use onboard digital out to get the same effect though.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
