f-18 apparently shot down by a US patriot battery 🙁

it's been like 3 years and I still hear this lie from the admins at the pentagon....in Afghanistan and now in Iraq.
the iraqis don't use F-15 or F-18 actually they don't have a working aircraft so the americans or the british don't have to use patriot batteries.they say this to motivate their soldiers and wash up your brain Sazar so you pay more taxes to let them stay there.

Do the Iraqis have enough Anti-aircraft defenses to take down an F-18 ? Maybe the plane just crashed due to pilot error. Who knows ? 😕

I'm pretty sure the patriot batteries are used for shooting down scuds aswell

They shot down some scuds in the first few days that were meant for Kuwait and some got through.

My info regarding patriot missiles and their ground control is that they were originally designed as ground-to-air anti missile missiles (as a modification) and as such travelled in excess of mach3.

They relied on a trigonometry (at least two reference points and hence two guidance systems) to both pre-programme in situ and in flight (1st Gulf War) and were (as now agreed by all) totally useless (a political feel good tool) as the technology then in place was to slow. However over the last twelve years greats strides have been the guidance system and I am lead to believe that they have a acquired target hit rate of 75%.

If a friendly aircraft is targeted by this system and the guidance technology works then by the time the aircraft pilot has detected the launch it’s already to late.

you have obviously spent a long time reading all my posts in this thread... 🙂

if you had... you would know I am against this war and the motives behind it... and even more so as there have been raids on highly suspected areas.. now evac'd... which have yielded NOTHING thus far... in terms of WMD...

I said it was FF coz all the news media sites are reporting it as such... centcom initially reported it as fighter plane malfunction someplace...

and btw... the iraqis do have working craft.. just no logical reason to use em due to overwhelming air superiority...

Whether or not the F18 was FF by the Patriot system or not the British Tornado fighter was. Which leads me to ask this question:

Given that Iraq has no airforce and has not flown a single aircraft in this conflict why did the Patriot system engage our aircraft?

Surely the trajectory of a fighter jet is sufficiently different from that of any kind of missile to warrant the most extreme scrutiny before firing the system?

perhaps that question should be posed to Central command... 🙂

and iraq DOES have an airforce... they just haven't flown anything yet...

I think they are initially going to use the craters as hot-tubs when the temperature rises...

Yes exactly! [Both points]

I heard that they had 'hidden' a fighter jet in a muslim graveyard...

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

There's a lot of talk today about chemical weapons being found. If this turns out to be true, and these are weapons that weren't supposed to exist, then what does this mean? For those who are opposed to this war, do you begin to change your mind, or do you think that the inspectors would have found them eventually? How significant will these findings be in terms of support for the war and favor for President Bush?

According to who? I mean its all propaganda, from both sides, the amount of made up rubbish that is twisted for the benifit of the governments is massive. They need to find something to justify the war, regardless of truth.

The first Gulf War we never heard about alive Iraqi soldiers being burried alive, but it happened.

We have had hardly any coverage about the Amercans firing on 2 surrendering Iraqi trucks and the ITV news crew.

We hear exactly what they want you to hear, everything else is pushed under the rug.

the war's legitimacy will remain in question... no matter what happens..

the support for bush will grow locally no doubt... and internationally there will be a little more understanding for sure..

but the fact that a soverign nation was attacked remains...

I personally opposed the war due to the fact that I do not condone the use of force to solve situations...
