I know that silly.ram isn't dual or single channel. ram is ram. single/dual channel is how many ram modules the cpu can talk to at once. single channel means it can only address one ram bank at once with a 64bit data path. dual channel means it can access 2 banks at once with a 128bit data path.
The optimal setup is 2 x 1GB modules for 32 bit and 2x2GB modules for 64bit unless you need more ram for 64bit.
