Steam Better?

With steam you can download to three PC's if I remember correctly, and you can play on any one of them, at any time. Or you can play two offline, and one online.

I have setup on two machines, and they play together nicely.

And yes you can resell your downloaded games. Or give them away to friends.

Good paranoia, go with it. I had a gaming buddy who did the download on some expansion packs and he was not happy. Besides you can't resell a download at half price books if you get tired of the game. And there may be restrictions on installing a download on multiple PCs so others can play when you are not without having to tie up your computer.

Then there is always the issue of havingto beg them to let you install on a new machine if your old PC dies with aHD or MB failure.

I've used my steam account on countless computers and I have never had a problem with hardware differences, its not like the WGA where it takes paranoia to a new level, all you need is an account and password and valve doesnt care where you play it from

You can only give away games that you already have that come in a package, like if you owned ep1 and hl2 and then bought orange box

I want to be able to install the game from CD/DVD, insert key and not have any potential problems if I don't have internet or their's auth problems with the host.

You can chuck it in offline mode, you can play with no net, no probs :)
(Although only good for SP games of course)

One thing that's a real boon with Steam whether offline or on, is GUIOverlay.exe. Great for any games that hate Alt+Tab ;)

I personally wish all my games were on Steam. If you have broadband, it's so much easier. I've never encountered any event which it would not allow me to install a game no matter what machine or how many reinstalls. It isn't like Windows activation. When I buy a game, I want to keep it, reselling it isn't an issue to me.

I didn't really want to start a new thread.

Since now I am playing most of my games through Steam I was wondering what all your usernames were for it. I'll add you as a friend.

I am hardly ever on anymore though. However I have a pretty new HD3870 coming in Thursday, and I bought COH and a friend is giving my orange box. I am hoping to get summore game time soon.

i forgot to say this, and in case someone doesnt know, its pretty cool

u can get hl2 deathmatch and lost coast for free with steam and an ati card :)

(i think the offer is on the drivers.. u need to install something like "free game", its just a desktop icon :p)

Good to know, but I have those already hehe

and steevo, that names shows up as can't find.

I got Portal on Steam the other day, downloaded it on my laptop at work, was nice and quick.

What games do you play? BTW am KillaBunny

Hmm, well its cheaper for me to buy the games in steam, because i live in Denmark so, the prices are not that low.. But i would prefer to buy it in hardcopy.. Just the feel of having so many games that the shelf will fall down any day , :p hehe

You can backup your local content onto cd's or dvd's if you want.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
