Memory has gone missing

Can anyone help. I recently upgraded my hard drive and CPU fan. I reinstalled windows XP and my memory went from 512 to 256 MB. I restarted and it was back up at 512 for a few days now it has gone down to 256 and has been like that for 3 days now.

My system is

Soltek 75drv4 board
2 X 256 DDR mem
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with coolermaster aero 7 lite
Maxtor 160 GB

If any one has any ideas I'd be very grateful

Yeah that is what they are saying, it is called reseting the memory. You might also try it in different slots.
