XP home or XP pro

I am running XP home but have been given XP pro by a friend that did not like it. What I was wondering is it worth upgrading and if I do will I be able to do it and keep my current settings and applications.
Can anybody help?

Yes, you can upgrade, but i recommend you back up the important files and do a clean install.
