Windows XP is broken

After installing a new HD 160 gig WD SE and a new controller card a promise ultra ata everytime I m in windows doing something like looking at the web chatting etc. my pc will freeze out of no where I ve reinstalled 3 times completely and same thing occurs only way of fixing is to reboot the pc.

check for an update on the controller card. and/or move the card to another slot, see if that helps.
