I have a HP 6735s laptop, came with Vista home pre installed. I have now upgraded to Windows 7. My son has a desktop built by myself, so no brand on it. Can I use the serial that was used when installing the vista to my HP laptop as i recovered it using Keyfinder, as i believe that it will come up saying invalid key as it isnt a HP machine. Or do i use the product key that on the sticker on my laptop. Would i need to call microsoft to enable this key?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a OEM version of vista but am unsure which key to use. The pre-installed key or the one on the sticker on laptop?

both will work, pre-installed is prob a volume key - one on the lap top will have to be manually activated.

I would use the one on the laptop

Not sure if I've understood the above scenario, but your vista (oem) license on your laptop cannot be transferred to the desktop as per the EULA.

What I would like to know is why you would want your son to suffer with Vista.

kids have to learn too ;) also - sins of the father...... :p

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
