What will happen if i install older OS

OK, i just got win2k pro, and i want to install win2k pro on my C Drive, not my D Drive where my XP is on, will this affect anything with XP?

i heard that it screwed up the boot.ini installing older OS,
but then was told it wouldnt do any affect if i dont install it on the same Hard Drive. What will happen?
