vista hangs chkdsk step 5

so I see on the tubes this is a common error but nobody has a fix

the drive checks out fine using the hardrive utility

anyone have a fix>?

you mean the percentage doesn't go up at all when checking the drive? i get something like this on my D drive, scans fast then slows to a crawl and then doesn't even looks like anything is happening, after about 5 mins it finishes.

From what i have been reading its an issue with the way vista handles the mft on the drives, more files you have on a drive the more problematic it is

chkdsk is for vista also

it just stops, it stays examining free space at 61 percent and won't continue

I tried rebooting and doing it again it hangs on the same free space tag
