USB 2.0 pci card on old (non usb2.0 motherboard) ??

hi.. i just got an NEC usb 2.0 PCI card for my old internet server machine
gigabyte ga71xe (only has usb1 sockets)
and i have a USB2.0 hard drive bay, which works fine on my laptop and DAW (both have built in USB2.0)
but when i plug my USB2.0 HD into my internet machines new USB2.0 pci card
it still transfers at usb1 speed

so my question, should a USB2 pci card still work at usb2 even if its in an older motherboard without built in USb2 support?

the NEC is using the latest drivers (built into XP SP1)
but i did a search for "USB 2.0" at windows downloads, and came up with

whatever that patch is, i cant run it, comes an error (see the attched pic)

any other ideas?

Try looking for some drivers on Gigabyte's site.

its an old board.. any drivers they have there are already installed

That seems strange. Even if the board doesn't support USB 2, the PCI slot has enough bandwidth to do so, and the driver should be telling your computer how.

I could be wrong, but don't you have to have either XP SP1 or special drivers installed?
