Upgradinjg question?

I have a 1.0Ghz AMD Athlon t-bird cpu. I wanted to buy an Athlon XP 1800+ or 1700+ off of ebay. Anything above an XP 1800+ be be a little too expensive. The motherboard I have supports the Athlon xp series and ddr ram I just want to know is it worth buying one of these processors, considering what I already have? If not, what would be something good to get for under $100.
