Trouble removing MSN messenger

I'm trying to remove msn messenger. I tried to edit sysoc.inf and remove the word hide from the line that says
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
This 'should' make messenger appear in add/remove windows components. However all I get is a new icon that is empty and has no name added to the list. Screen shots on the internet show Windows Messenger in the list with a description of what it is. Has anyone removed messenger?
