The .EXE that just won't go away!

Not too long ago, I downloaded a program, something to do with DVD
encoding I think. Anyway, I decided this program was useless and went to
delete it. Every file was deleted except the .EXE. Now it won't go!
It comes up with "Cannot Delete PTD: Program is being used by another
program or person"
Please help as its just sitting there on my desktop serving no purpose.

Cheers.

Did you delete or uninstall that program?

Are you sure it is the actual exe file sitting on your desktop?

It may be a desktop namespace extension.

Look in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
if there is a subkey corresponding to that program.

Export the key before you change anything.

if you can't get rid of it with the suggestions above...go to the command prompt and manually delete it from there

example
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Desktop\del name of program.exe
