is 56-58c a good idle temp for this processor, i just built new machine yesterday and used an arctic cooling freezer pro 7 heatsink+fan to cool the chip instead of the stock one. Just want to make sure it seems normal. I have bearing used the comp yet, not even install xp. but looking at the temps via the bios. i'm using an intel D945psn mobo.

I have the 950 and I run right around there. A bit cooler at 51-54C (I have the ZALMAN 9500).

good so its not too bad then, but not too good either, the fan right now is going pretty slow about 1850rpm. i think once the thermal paste is set and the os is installed i think there is a fan util that can make it run faster. or is 1850rpm a good speed?

EDIT:

i just looked on newegg and the fan runs upto 2500rpm, so even another 200rpm faster should bring the temps down by about 4c?!

Intel Pentium D's run hot, like most Intel chips... in other words, this is normal. The new Core 2 Duo makes big strides in the heat department.

well actually, now my temp is down to 51c, guess the paste must be setting, looking forward to lower temps :0

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
