Apart from the obvious space-saving, another advantage of the new taskbar grouping is that it's supposed to let you work exclusively with that group. For example, you can cascade, tile, minimise, close, etc - all in theory without affecting any other open windows.
But it doesn't seem to work entirely correctly here. For example, I've found the Tile Horizontally command very handy. However, while viewing say a couple of tiled browser or text editor windows, if I click another program's taskbar item that window reappears at *reduced* size, rather than maximised as it was previously.
Could someone please confirm this behaviour please, and whether I'm correct in concluding it's a flaw.
