Hello guys,
My computer takes forever to shuttdow compare previous
OS which is Windows ME.

Computer : Compaq Petium 4 1.5 GHz
Memory : 384 RDRAM
OS : XP-Pro
Application : Office, Visual .NET
Hard drive : 60 GB Seagate
Video : 64 MB

It takes about 40 second or more to shuttdown and
about the same to boot.
Any ideas to better performance, please help!
Thanks in advance

kth 🙁

Bootvis.exe

Go to micro$oft and get the bootvis.exe and that should help 😎

Thank you Kermit

I will try it tonight, then I will let you know.

locate the waittokillservicetimeout under local machine, system, controlset001, control

Set it to a low number like 2000 or such and that might help 🙂

Slow shut down

If you have an Nvidia graphics card go to administrative tools>services> Nvidia driver helper (right click on it, select properties, disable)

Sage,
I will try it later, but can you explain to
me why do I have to disable it!
Thanks,
kth😉

It really works, I disable NVIDIA a couple months ago and it reduced my shut down time from 55 seconds to 15.
🙂

I'd try what qumahlin suggests because by default xp just sits there, idle, for ages, but if you cut the waittokill timeout this wait is reduced accordingly.

I will do it right, to night.
I will let you guys know later.

Khanh 🙂
