Strange excel / word mail merge problem

I am trying to mail merge an excel spreadsheet to word, which all works fine but it puts big line breaks between each line that can't be removed, any ideas on what this is? Let me know if you need more info...

Check the formatting of the pargraph's for the word document.

What verison of Office (2003,2007,2010?).

Check how are you formatting the excel cells.

How are you doing the merge? By cell?
