Stop dir names moving when sorting by modified date

In win98 you could sort by modified and the dir would stay at the top and the sorted files stayed underneath, now in XP if you sort by modified and the newest is at the top the dirs go down the bottom. I want the dirs to stay where they are and then the files underneath only to move, is this possible as the current situation is driving me nuts.

Thats odd. I just tried it on my comp and the dirs do stay at the top? dunno what's different, i'll see if it's the same at work tomorrow..workin on easter sucks!

Don't think I have "tweaked" anything to do with directory listing on my box, very strange.

Anyone else with any ideas, I have resorted to using explorer again as I was using DOpus but it decided to take 95% of CPU time when not even in use, I still have the trouble of clicking the modified by link and the folders move to the bottom.

IS there a way to remove explorer and install it again.
