I heard recently that a lot of older cable modems are not even capable of sending/receiving the higher speeds available today. If your modem is more than a year old, it probably can't hack it. Check with your server and find out what model they are supplying to their newer customers.

As long as it is Docsis 2.0 Compliant the age is not an issue. I install modems that are more than a year old all the time. Some of the first cable modems that are more than 3 years old may have issues going faster but usually that bottle neck is how many people are pulling down big files and what the cable company's equipment is.

heh .... i remember when 2400bps was king.... next came 9600... then OMG 14.4 hehehe...times have changed....

on avg i get about 3mbps down for about 40 a month with brighthouse
