Sony Camcorder

Recently purchased new Dell w/Vista. Worked fine until I tried to install a Sony CD for my camcorder. Got all types of error messages after installation stating non compatibility, etc. Tried removing the software and seeing if that helped but I was unable to remove the Sony driver no matter where I went to remove - still there. Tired of talking to India support - or perhaps not tired but just can't understand them. Anyone with similar problems. Thanks, Stavros

I don't know but if you fail to get it working I'll buy your camcorder off you!

Seriously though, give us some more info. What exactly are these error messages? Is there a later version of the Sony software you can download from their website that may be more compatible with Vista?

Thanks Ray, I will get back to you. tried a few things tonight and I believe it got rid of the Sony driver - will check out. Steve

Ray, I managed to get rid of the sony driver - not sure how I did it but I probably clicked on everything in the control panel and finally removed it. Sent Sony a query on problem and they tell me that sony handy cam is compatible with Vista - not sure I want to try to install again. Steve

If its a digital camcorder why does it need a driver? I have a couple of camcorders and I just plug it in via firewire and no drivers needed.

Ray, not sure but it is a Sony DVD 405 and I it supplied a Picture Package CD. When I installed it showed it had a Sony Driver. Maybe I will try direct connection without the CD but thought it was essential. Steve

Yeah give it a try without the software from the disc - XP, especially since SP2, is usually pretty good with stuff like this. Good luck!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
