Slowdown

I've never had a problem with my cd-rom drive before, but now I do. When I run games or applications with sounds from cd audio, my applications suffer a severe slowdown. Even in games that have full screen, but use the cd-rom for music, slows down greatly. When I listen to cd audio and mp3s at the same time, the mp3s sound very distorted. I reinstalled windows xp, but i'm not sure what the problem is. When I burned cds, I used to listen to mp3s flawlessly, but even with a new operating system, the mp3s are distorted. I will be grateful for any help.

try setting your cd output to analogue.
