As a Service Tech for a cable company i ask that you don't ever use the twist on fittings from anywhere. go to home depot, menards, or lowes and get the snap and seal fittings and a good wire stripper and tool for crimping snap and seal fittings. The other thing you can do is call your cable company to have them fix it.
Well, at least they tried. That is more than I can say for some people. But, with that said, let me explain how to knock out return service on the particular tap leg of the LE that the modem/house is hooked to:
Always use 59 line, as pictured above.
Strip it with a utility knife, as pictured above. (<-APA)
Make sure the center dielctric is the clear plastic, not white foam. (APA)
Don't worry about cutting nicking or scraping the center conductor.
Make sure to leave '''plenty''' of center conductor length, (APA)
Always use copper braid, single shield wire (APA) , &
Always remove the foil ......
Place a small 'twist' or bend on the end of the wire, to Hook into place...
Be sure to use twist-on fittings on both ends,
Ohh ohh ohh yeah, and dont forget to leave the AFRO PUFF hanging out the back (APA)
Hook all this up either directly into your service line, or with 4-way splitters.
You are SURE to knock out the service for you AND your neighbor.
Good luck !
Hey, I'm just kidding around, but seriously, call the cable company, or take EJN74's advice, or
dont splice the cable at all. Buy a new RG6 cable. Once you spend $5 at Radio Shack, it will stop working in a few weeks. THEN, you are going to spend $15 for a service call (Or new outlet) when the cable company comes out, not to mention to time you had to wait for them between 11 and 2.... When you could have resolved the issue by buying the correct RG6 cable. Ask a satellite installer for a cable
