Quicktime & Itunes Update

Alright, every once in awhile the Apple Update Software program comes up asking to update, it says Quicktime + Itunes.

I don't want iTunes, but thats the only thing it will let me download.

How do I update Quicktime without iTunes, or if its really just wanting to update iTunes, why is it, I don't have iTunes installed.

And when I go in Quicktime, and hit, Update Existing Software I get this error

actually the only reason I have it install is cause I thought for videos to work in Firefox, firefox needs it installed. Is this correct?

you only need quicktime if you want to watch quicktime videos.

Easiest way to update just quicktime is to redownload it from apple.

It will show an update to the standalone player if there is one. It just tries to get you download iTunes+Quicktime for some strange reason. If you are talking about non-quicktime movies you can install the WMP plugin for firefox: http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx

If there is a .mov file on the internet, embedded or what not, do I need Quicktime installed on the computer.

Cause VLC Player plays those files.

yes you do. I keep telling you though that there are better players out there on windows than VLC 🙂

QuickTime Alternative is the way to go without the bloat of Quicktime

Yea, but I just love VLC lol

I guess I will try the Quicktime Alternative as well.
