Question about Cpu + mobo + os combo

isnt sli rumored to support dual mons in the next big forceware release? (scheduled for this month)

Crossfire supports dual monitor now.

Holy McPoops! Awesome, Terrahertz! Next board is going to be a CF monster...I'll pick up another card. Now to talk my wife into motherboard, processor, and video card all at once.

Thanks Terra for the mobo suggestion , glad to know it works with the cpu I picked out.

I also will be looking at that keyboard what would you suggest for a hard drive? Someone mentioned some new raptor type drive that came out? Also what memory would you go with? DDR3 ?

This is the screaming new raptor at 300gigs .
VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache

Two of them in Raid will own all.

Hmm Im a fan of Corsair ram but Patriot and OCZ are my other lovelies.
These bad boys are from patriot and are rated[ PATRIOT DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000)]
These are fine with lots of overclocking potential.

Make sure you get 4gigs of ram for your new machine plus your board only takes DDR3 Ram.

no way... diamondback 3g ftw! :]

you all are so very wrong

here it is:

Ok added 2 of those raptors to my list. I was curious is there really that much of a difference buying those 2 vs the older 74 gig raptors other then HD size?

Also for the memory is there a bigger sized memory stick you recomend? I was thinking of using 8 gigs of memory in vista for gaming , etc, etc. I was trying to find a good 2 gig stick that would work with that mother board.

Well you can go less with these. Im not sure what the cache size is on the 74gigs.

update:The 74gig raptors run on SATA 1.5 not 3.0 and the buffer is only 8 megs. I think there being phased out if not already.

Sure you can get modules at 2 gig per stick. Check this page. If the prices are too much we can drop the speed a notch and go a bit cheaper.

O ok good point on the raptor drive. I went with 2 raptors and plan to set them in raid 0.

The memory I wanted to purchase the cosairs but it was sold out. What other stick would you pick from that list? My fear is I will pick the wrong one from the list and my motherboard will have issues with it. I had that problem happen to me once before and it was a nightmare.

I guess now all that I got left is a power supply to run everything and a good reliable computer case (I'm biased to thermal take) and sound card. Any you recomend?

I already purchase a blueray burner last week and a floppy drive. From there I will order it tonight and hopefully get it in the next week so I can take some pics and do some benchmarks.

I am looking to purchase a new cpu/mobo/and os for gaming to go along with 2 Geforce 280s running in SLI.

I had a few questions...

1. Should I go with Vista Ultimate 64 bit or 32 bit? My concern is I want to be able to play world of warcraft and my other pc games and I was concerned it wouldn't work in Vista 64 bit. Along with my mods that I play with in World of Warcraft.

Vista x64 is the only way to go in my opinion.

Also, no point in going with SLi, especially with the life-span of the products and ESPECIALLY if you are playing WoW. About the only game that needs help is Crysis and that still chugs with a 280 SLi configuration.

2. What CPU + Mobo would you buy if your total budget is $1500 for a new cpu/mobo. I prefer Asus Mobos/Intel Cpus if possible.

Intel chipset, a cheaper quad solution, something like the 9450 or 9550 if you do a lot of multi-tasking, else a good dual-core solution would be more than adequate. The new 8 series dual's are pretty decent.

Sorry for all the question but I been out of the loop for so long I have no clue what to buy and what not. I figured everyone here is an expert on this matter and could save me a lot of headaches.

Thanks You,
Homesick

I have to add some things based on other people's solutions.

Keyboard, the logitech G-15 == ace. A bit bigger, yes, but it is AWESOME :D

For the mouse, if you are gaming, the G-5 is pretty good. For all around work, I LOVE my Revolution and for gaming, I absolutely adore my G-9.

Word of advice, if you can get a mouse with free-spin or similar tech, jump on it. I can never use a mouse without free-spin anymore.

Regarding hard-drives, you don't need raptors.

If you get a couple of 750GB, 32MB cache WD's, you should be fine. Those things are blistering fast, don't consume as much power, are cheaper, have more capacity and you will have peace and quiet.

RAID 0 and 10k spindle speeds are over-rated and not worth the extra money and lower life-spans.

Good points, sazar. So in that case, an EVGA 790i Ultra FTW with a q9650 quad core, vista ultimate 64, 8 gig of ram and a ATI 4870x2 would be sweeeeet. :)

Something else that is nice is the EVGA 750i board. I like that one as well ,,

Hey Sazar thanks for the extra input. You've always been a great help :). Hey homesick here's the link I mentioned about the machine I put together in PM.

Oh and yeah I'm a Thermaltake power supply fan myself :). Check the one in the pics.

Just put together a machine for another bud of mine with the 750i chipset. Good board indeed.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
