[Mac] Override Resolution Settings?

Is it at all possible to override the refresh rates in OSX (10.2.8)? I'm currently running 1280x1024 at 85Hz, but as I actually own a 4:3 monitor, I prefer to run 1280x960, yet when I select this in Preferences, I'm only given a refresh rate of 72Hz, which - without messing a lot with the monitor itself - doesn't fit the whole screen, and is obviously below what my monitor can actually do, and what I'd like it to do.

so is there any way I can get 1280x960 at 85Hz ?

is there a monitor driver for it, and some form of mac ini file ?

xsiv, yup, everything can be selected then, 85Hz etc. 1280x960 seems to be the only res it doesn't like

That ****ing setdisplay thing has managed to hi-jack my context menu's though, so i need to find out how to remove that now crapware! *slaps*

Ahem, after much digging through the library via terminal, it's gone

Fixed!!! Installed OS X 10.3 today and it recognises all my monitor rates and resolutions correctly

Panther's definitely worth it. I was talking to a G5 owning friend (the git!) who also owns an oooooooold G3 prismo(?) notebook, he'd just installed 10.3 on there and says it runs as good as OS9. Which I never thought I'd hear him say, as he's a die-hard OS9.2.2 fan, hated OSX when it first came out
