i got the utilities at IBM, the Drive is FINE, but what seems to be bad was ALL the data on it, i finally gave up and used a low level format, the drive is working as new right now, i did several scandisks no errors, NU reports no errors either, and the IBM utilities report no errors.
so now i am so confused, could it have been a Virus?? if it was why not get my other HD ?
oh well ALL of my data is gone, but at leat i got my HD back (not really trust it now)
Thanks for all of your help, and thanks for telling me about the 3 year warranty, the place where i got it said it only had 1 year but IBM tells me i still got 2 more years
Do a full suface scan.
Then do a full format, if there are any bad sectors the surface scan or the format will flag them right away.
That's how I knew my HD had become a Door Stop.
Corrupt data... Hmmm... sound like, taste like... Virus??? Or something overwrote some other thing and BOOM. But XP doesn't permit the overwrite thing. Hmmm...
Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
