booted up tday and got a bad error, ntfs.sys is not there or missing. Windows told me to run chkdsk /f, when I typed that into the rescue command line, it said that that was not a command. So I typed chkdsk /r. Ever gotten this error? and will chkdsk /r fix it?

Run cmd and type sfc /scannow

I the error apears after windows is loaded but before the GUI is on. DO you mean to type that in the rescue command?

You probably have one or many system files corrupt. Please do a repair installation. The procedure is to boot from XP CD and enter 'R' the second time around after you press to install XP. This may take some time as the XP would copy all the relevant files and install but keeping your data intact.
