Got a problem with Windows XP Pro...
For some strange reason, I no longer have systems sounds, for example when I log on (no music) and when I get new mail the PC speaker beeps, instead of playing the sound I have set.
Thing is, I can hear the sounds when I go to Sounds and Audio devices, select the default sound scheme (or my own) I can click and listen to them but it just seems that Windows has gone silent on me.
Haven't installed anything new and even a system restore doesn't work. Is there an .ini file somewhere or a registry entry that is telling Windows not to play sounds?
I'm baffled by this as I can play mp3s and so on. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.
