No monitor under XP Pro

When I installed XP Pro it detected all my devoces correctly. After several reboots and installing some sortware and updates, my monitor is now listed as "default monitor" from its original Dell monitor. XP won't allow me to change the monitor type, all configurations are greyed out. Also there i sno monitor listed under the hardware tab in the control panel. Any Ideas

Seems to be although I don't have access to some of the features and can't install the color files.

Are the features you're referring to in relation to your graphics card? Are those drivers up-to-date. For an example, my ATI drivers will put this in display properties (and my monitor is "default"):

I just installed a new driver form nvidia, thanks. is your monitor listed in the control panel/hardware.

If you're referring to the make and model being in the "add new hardware" wizard then no. I still have it's full capablity though so no problem. Being listed as "default" is ok, as long as default isn't black and white, lol. Good luck man, and welcome to XP-erience.

i have an ATI card and it lists my monitor as "default" as well.. its pretty messed, not like it makes a difference though.
