NEWBIE.........to DV Capture!!!

I did my first DV capture last night and I had a thirty [30] minute tape......How the hell did 30 minutes of tape at [720 x 468] end up being 9 gigs?!?

AND, now from doing this I lost 25 gigs and I can't find what file is taking it up. I know it has to do with the DV capture.

As confusing as this may sound, does anybody know what I am talking about?
