mouse freezes

I have my friend's computer here which is having a weird problem with the mouse. it is a Celeron 1GHz on Chaintech 6OIV2 board running WinXP Professional.

the problem is that the mouse sometimes freezes suddenly.
when I unplug the mouse and plug it in again, it works fine for a while, then it happens again.

the mouse is some generic PS/2 optical browser mouse. the other PS/2 port has Logitech iTouch keyboard plugged in. the problem goes away when using an USB keyboard. the mouse itself is OK, it works fine on my computer together with a PS/2 keyboard.

is there a solution?

Ep, glad to see you come back and tidy up...did want to ask a one day favor, I want to enhance my resume , was hoping you could make me administrator for a day, if so, take me right off since I won't be here to do anything, and don't know the slightest about the board, but it would be nice putting "served administrator osnn", if can do, THANKS
