mobility radeon and opengl

girlfriend has a dell inspiron 8100 with 64mb mobility radeon 7500. i borrow it for counter-striking at a friends house on occasion. question is, are ati cards in general poor at opengl? i use d3d to get decent fps but the quality is just missing from opengl. i'm an nvidia guy, so are there any radeon secrets i should know? the fact that there haven't been new video drivers for it since december doesn't help.
