Sometimes I wonder why there is not a section for "Adult conversations/topics"

Nick M - it was a tongue in cheek response - the thought has crossed my mind before in regards to other posts but mostly triggered by Zanwar today.

I mean really, why does a 15 year old even want to respond about child support - unless of course they are being screwed out of it and all the other kids have Nikes and they are wearing PF Flyers??

And I guess there are kids on here who never heard of PF Flyers!! HA! HA!😱

Yes and no... The Ex has to pay all that time from when they devorced up to the time the woman remarried plus interest on that amount. And then goes to Court to have it stopped. That's how it works. But only that amount of time as long as the Court says so.

So if he was supposed to pay $1,000.00 a month per child and they (let's say 2 children to make it easy for you to calculate) were 5 years old and the woman remarried when they were 15 years old that's 10 years at $1,000.00 per month (that's $12,000.00 per year) plus interest... You do the math. That's alot of money.

It's like back taxes... you still gotta pay.

Since you're only 15 I'll be nice and explain how child support works.

Child support is paid to the custodial parent by the non-custodial parent until the child/children are at least 18, longer if the courts order it to continue until they graduate college. This child/children are the responsibility of the parents (the people who created them) not a step-parent. The only legal way a biological parent can get out of paying child support is if the custodial parent remarries and the step-parent adopts the child/children.

Alimony on the other hand, is suport for the (ex)spouse not the child/children. Alimony stops once the (ex)spouse gets remarried.

Mine you, all of these still need to go through the courts. A person cannot just stop paying. They can't just decide to lower their payments just because their ex-spouse has remarried, a child has turned 18 or has been adopted by a step parent.
