From the site:

To prevent Media Player from entering more data in the list:
1. Click Start --> Run and type regedit
2. Navigate to this Directory :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Preferences

3. In the right window double click on the key called "AddToMRU"
4. Double click that key and set the value to 00 (two zeros).

I HAVE NO "AddToMRU" on my computer! I did get rid of:

To remove the media Player history:
1. Click Start --> Run and type regedit
2. Navigate to this Directory called "RecentFileList" and click on it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Player/RecentFileList

3. Right click on each key in the right window, and choose delete. i.e File 0, File 1 etc
4. Also check the folder below it called "RecentURLList" and do the same

What gives?

Lets see if I understand you correctly:-
You don't have a Key called "AddToMRU" and naturally no Value of "00"

If you want to make it/them, go as far down the list as you can, ie. HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Preferences
right-click a blank area in the right side and choose "New" "String Value", inthe box that appears type:-
AddToMRU
Click anywhere off that name then double-click that name, and in the box that appears type:-
00
Click "OK" then close the registry

I may or may not try that. Its my work computer (Dell running W2K SP2) so we'll see. I thought it strange that it wasn't THERE already.

Hello GraveLayer

I guess you have Media Player 6.4 or something. That comes with 2k. It keeps no history records.
The advice given refers to Media Player 7.

Do both solutions (key reg and del file stuff) but it works only if the AddToMRU key is a BINARY value and not a String value...

BTW, i have WMP 8.00.00.4477
