I don't know if you guys know on how this could possibly be achieved, but if you do, let me know.

As it currently stands, Mac OS X sends out a lot of "chatter", loads of MDNS requests for Bonjour and whatnot, how can I turn them off, or even tell the Applications not to send them? There is no reason that my iTunes should go looking for a ****ing Apple TV to pair with.

Well for iTunes specifically, there is an Apple TV tab in Preferences that lets you choose for iTunes to not look for Apple TVs. As for the requests in general, I'm not sure -- could it be something in Services for each specific application?

Even with that turned off I see packets being sent asking for it.

I just removed mDNSResponder from my system, by unloading it:

Code:
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

Seems to have done the trick. Does mean I probably can't use Bonjour in Adium, can't get shared iTunes and all that stuff, but in the name of being more stealthy on the network I have accomplished something.

Nice. You love yourself some Terminal, don't you? ;)

you really don't need mdns responder to be honest :) the freebsd code should include resolver libraries already that will handle the dns lookups. Keep an eye on things and see how you go without it.

DNS and all that jazz is handled by a seperate daemon that caches as well and it is called lookupd, those were never tied together. MDNS was strictly for Bonjour type crap.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
