I don't care (to a certain point) how many charges the battery will last as long as it's user-replaceable.

let's not forget this is an ipod guys, most people I know wanted to keep their ipods long past the useable battery life

this device is gonna be the same, people would have wanted to keep it longer then a year

You are forgetting people, this is a disposable item. Seriously.

So what if you signed a 2 year contract and all that jazz... there will probably be a new phone out within a year for you to grab and this thread will be a footnote.

How long is the iphone contract?
Could always upgrade to a new iphone?

I am sure Apple will do something, didn't they just get a boost from Greenpeace for being more green-friendly?

Typical contract duration is 18 months to 2 years AFAIK.
