I just installed 10.4 on my sisters laptop. Its a 500Mhz with 640MB of ram and built in firewire. When it tries to boot is show an apple and just stays there, I get no error message at all. Any ideas?

I know someone who is about to try to install Tiger on an 800MHz with 640mb of ram, but his had some problems running panther smoothly so it could just be under spec for tiger.

I seem to remember Apple basically stated that a computer with built-in Firewire is supported for 10.4. Not sure if that's true across the board, but I think it's the case.

I tried putting 10.1 back on it and it wont even boot off the disk. It still boots off of the 10.4 DVD but it wont install right. Maybe some of the hardware needed a firmware update?

While you start the laptop up, hold down the "c" button. It should boot from the CD rom drive then.

I still cant get the damn thing to work, I have installed OSX 10.4 3-4 times now. I havent given up, but I just stopped for awhile :)

:dead:

I can't resist...

I'm sure glad Intel/Microsoft PC's aren't that much trouble.

Heh, I dont think that they are less trouble, but that we are more familiar with them(I am atleast). But yes I agree, they are a pain :dead:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
