how to get outlook to open attachments again?

my friend has outlook and all it wants to do is open attachments with notepad

how to fix?

Check file associations. If you receive a .pdf for example and save it to your desktop, does Explorer try to open with Notepad?

His file extensions are not set right. He will have to change them to open with outlook.
