How Can I Share A Printer On A Network Without A Pc?

Is there a way to connect a printer to a network so everyone can print to it without the printer being connected to its own PC?

1. What does a "print server" do? I have seen these in stores. What are they for?

2. Is there a way to connect it to a network jack in the wall like I have all the other computers and just send the documents there?

3. If so, what software will I need?

but what does the print server actually do and how do you recognize it on the network from other computers?

Even better (if you haven't bought a printer yet). Buy a network printer that plugs into the router or hub with its own IP address.

Basically a print server gives the printer an IP address. Then you send the print jobs on a port to this address.

I'm used to using the intel netport ones.
