How can I remove the "Dell Solution Center" from my start menu?

THANKS!!

you cant right click on it and delete the shortcut??

Nope...

Nope, I wish it was that easy...

any ideas??

hmm thats strange, is it there if you switch to the classic start menu theme? i can't stand the normal start menu personally. there has to be some registry hack for it. Can you remove the program itself through add/remove?? or search for it via explorer and delete it/uninstall it that way??

aaahhhh

still no luck... no add/remove option, nothing I can find..

all you OEM haters out there must know a way...

THANKS

Try this:
Start\run\msconfig
Go to startup & see if it is being loaded on startup there. If so untick it.

nope

nothing there... this icon doesn't even load an app, it's just a link to "C:\DELL\DELLBUTN.HTM" which takes you to their website or MS help..

I just want to get rid of the stupid icon...

any other ideas? THANKS

you might look in
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\startmenu\startmenu

And look for something for dell and delete it or under

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\advanced\folder

If i still had my oem i could help

one more thing is you can right click on the open part of the start menu and press properties then click customize then advanced and look around for it in there

well..

I looked around the reg where you suggested, nothing stood out...

I can't believe it is this hard to remove a single stupid icon... AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

:)

Now I feel better...

any other thoughts?

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\ShowOEMLink

Go to NoOEMLinkInstalled and change it to 1

WEll now i accidently put the same thing on my computer so im trying to get rid of it to

OK i figured it out.. do the nooemlink above then go to
hkey classes root\clsid\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

Then change Default (it says dell solution center) so it doesnt say anything then go down to Instance\InitPropertyBag in the same key and delete "command" and "param1" and delete the key default value

Now log off and back on and it will be gone

thanks

first off, thanks xsk8zerox, that is by the far the best help I have had yet...

I was able to get the icon to disappear, but the spaceholder is still there... what I mean is there is just a big blank space (see attached pic)...

I know this is picky but is there a way to fix that too?

THANKS AGAIN!! :)

thanks

well, I did reformat, they day I got the PC.

I think there is some OEM junk integrated into the Windows install disk that Dell gives you... either that or at some point when you install drivers they sneak it in... can't remember if it was there on the 1st reboot after reformat..

Right click on the start menu and go to the taskbar and start menu properties. Click the start menu tab, then click customize, then advanced and under Start Menu Items uncheck the manufacturer link box.

Hope this helps.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
