Hard Drive "chugging away" , help

Ive had xp installed for a while with no problems.

Now all of a sudden, the hard drive on is just working like crazy ... CPU load's @ 50 - 70 % on idle ...

I scandisk'd , defragged full ... still doing it.. it's almost impossible to run any games on it.

In the root of E: there's
hiberfil.sys which is 600 megs and
pagefile.sys which is 800 megs .. is this normal ?

I had too much to loose If I format, any ideas ?

Which process is showing a 50-70% load?

also do you have drive indexing enabled? Hiberfil.sys is the file if you use hibernation, if you don't use hibernation disable it and delete hiberfil.sys, pagefile.sys is just that, your pagefile, size varies as to what you have ti set at.

That's the thing, the highest process running is explorer @ 30 k ... I have 512 ram , AMD 1400 and 2 40 gig fujitsu 7200 rpm..

It's my CPU usage that's going berzerk... I have dual boot with Millenium and millenium works fine so its' some xp thing.
