well if you are looking for a really cheap place for domain names,
www.godaddy.com - The cheapest when they have sales (almost every month)

As for cheap servers, I recommend www.totalchoicehosting.com or www.p4host.com - both have great customer service and a good community for help

yeah they are cheap + good only thing that niggles me is they dont seem to so subdomains when using it as a fowarding address ...........but that doesn't matter as my webhost does them

I have personally had quite a few problems with 1and1 in the past. for that reason i go with the other two servers.
