Graphics Help Please ?

I think I may have some corrupted files on XP. All my gif's etc have multi-coloured speckles on them. Also on my desktop there is a red oblong block just to the bottom right hand side of the monitor. I am using a GE Force card and have already dumped and reloaded the drivers. Any ideas guys/gals is there a diagnostics check I can do in XP ? By tghe way any video playback is ok.
Your help would be very much appreciated.

what are your graphic settings? like resolution and color depth? and when you open a picture in a 3rd party program or on the web is there the same problem?
