floppy drive not responding

Hi,

I have a floppy drive that sometimes when i save and go to another computer, at school or another persons house it will say its not formatted 75% of the time. It is very odd though, because i am on windows 2000, and the school is on windows 2000 and we are both using office 2000. I have tried a few disc and it appears not to be just some brand. I am very confused any help would be appreciated.

its failing, probably the cheepest part to go on a pc.

Certainly floppy discs formatted on one system such as 98 cannot always be read on XP etc.
Odd but true that I have seen this apply to 2 different machines running the same system....... maybe one of them needed cleaning !
