You can rate and add tags to media files in Vista straight from Explorer. My question is, how do I make sure those ratings and tags are backed up from installation to installation in case of the OS failure? ... or are they embedded in the file themselves?

They are set into the id tag of the file itself - So they are permanent. You can say that vista has a built into media tagger if you like ... I still like the godfather and tag&rename better, though.

Their own media tagger I'm guessing since I don't know of MP3s having specifications for ratings. At least I haven't seen them widely used. These embedded ratings and tags apply to videos as well?

That is am not sure of, as I never did it with video. I think it is only with audio files.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
